Satyr, [ca. 1690].

Manuscript on paper, in a single hand, of a collection of 41 satirical verses and ballads, primarily scatalogical in language and on such subjects as politics, the court, women, and poetry. Numerous poems are addressed to "Julian," including A familiar Epistle to Julian; Julian in verse-a satyr; and A consolatory letter to Julian. The collection also contains poems concerning John Wilmot, Earl of Rochester, including Rochester's farewell and Rochester's ghost. Other titles include An essay on satyr; The Commons to the king; The female laureat; Advice to Mr. Francis Villers; and The cushion dance at court, whose characters include King Charles II; his illegitimate sons Charles, Duke of Richmond; Henry, Duke of Grafton; and James, Duke of Monmouth; as well as Algernon Sidney and George, Duke of Albemarle.
